Get Involved and Get Wet: The Top Reasons Everyone Should Try Water Sports

When it comes to the world of water sports, there’s something out there for everyone. From kayaking and paddle boarding to surfing and jet skiing, there are endless opportunities for adventure. But what makes these activities so special? Here are the top reasons why everyone should get involved in water sports.

It’s an All-Around Workout

Water sports offer a full-body workout that provides physical activity with minimal impact on joints. Unlike running or weightlifting, which can be difficult on aging bodies, water sports provide a unique way to stay fit without putting too much strain on muscles and bones. Plus, you don’t have to be an athlete to enjoy them; even those who haven’t done any type of physical activity in years can still participate in most water sports without feeling overwhelmed or exhausted after just a few minutes.

It Connects You With Nature

What better way to appreciate nature than by spending time out on the water? Water sports allow you to explore rivers and lakes as well as ocean coasts and estuaries—all while connecting with your natural environment. Whether it’s paddling through calm waters or challenging yourself with more extreme activities like wakeboarding or kiteboarding, getting involved in water sports is one of the best ways to experience the beauty of nature first hand.

It’s Fun!

Let’s face it — water sports are fun! They provide an opportunity for relaxation as well as excitement depending on your activity preference. And if you want a little bit of both, you can combine different activities together for a more complete adventure. For example, go kayaking during the day then try stand up paddleboarding at night under the stars! It’s a great way to spend those long summer days while having fun with friends and family members alike.

Water sports offer something unique that no other type of activity can provide—the perfect combination of exercise, exploration, and fun all rolled into one! So what are you waiting for? Get outside this summer and make some waves with these top reasons why everyone should get involved in water sports today! From kayaking and paddle boarding to surfing and jet skiing, there are plenty of opportunities out there just waiting for you! Now grab your board (or boat) and let’s hit the waves!

What size inflatable paddle board do i need?

Looking to buy an inflatable paddle board but not sure what size to get? You’re in luck! In this blog post, we will discuss the different sizes of paddle boards and help you decide which one is best for you. We’ll also provide a few tips on how to choose the right size board and some helpful hints on how to use it. So, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced paddle boarder, read on for all the information you need to make the perfect purchase!

Before you make a purchase, it’s important to consider what type of riding you’ll be doing. As a general rule, the larger the board, the more stable it will be in choppy water and windy conditions – making them ideal for beginner riders or those looking for improved performance. However, a longer board is not suitable for surfing as they can become very difficult to maneuver. If you plan on taking your board out into open waters or river-surfing, then opt for a shorter and wider model that is easier to turn quickly.

When deciding on the size of your inflatable paddle board, it’s best to take into account your weight and skill level as well. Generally speaking, if you weigh less than 250 lbs, you should opt for a board that is 9 to 12 feet long and no wider than 34 inches. If you weigh between 250-300 lbs then opt for a board that is 10 to 14 ft long and up to 34 inches wide. Lastly, if you weigh over 300 lbs you will want an 12-14ft long board with at least 34 inches of width. This will ensure the most stability while riding.

Once you’ve chosen the size, remember these important tips: Make sure your board has enough air pressure before each use; keep it away from sharp objects; make sure the fins are securely fastened; and always check that the bungee cords are in good condition too. Additionally, don’t forget to wear your life jacket and keep a whistle on hand in case you need help.

Now that you have all the information you need, it’s time to get out there and enjoy your new inflatable paddle board! With the right size board for your weight and skill level, you’ll be sure to have an amazing ride. So don’t forget: measure twice, buy once – happy paddling!

How to Stand Up Paddle Board: A Beginner’s Guide

Paddle boarding is awesome, and it’s definitely a sport that anyone can learn. Whether you’re new to the water or an experienced paddler, there are some tips and tricks you should know before heading out on the open water. Here is your beginner’s guide to stand up paddle boarding.

First, you’ll want to find the right board for you. Your board should be wide and stable, but still lightweight enough to easily maneuver. Consider the type of water you’ll be paddling in – a flat lake or ocean waves – and pick a board that suits your needs best. If you’re new to the sport, it’s helpful to test out different boards at a local lake or surf shop.

Next, you’ll need to learn the basics of paddling. You should always wear a life jacket and make sure that you are aware of your surroundings while on the water. When standing on the board, keep your feet shoulder width apart and try to distribute your weight evenly throughout both feet – this will help you balance better. When paddling, use your core to keep your board steady and keep a straight line with the paddle.

Being comfortable on the board is essential. You should practice getting up and down from a kneeling position until you feel confident doing so without help from another person or an object. Once you have mastered that technique, you can move onto the standing position. It’s important to have patience because it can take some time and practice before you feel comfortable on the board.

Finally, when you’re out on the open water, make sure to be aware of your environment and what is going on around you. Check for currents in rivers or areas with windy conditions that might make it more difficult to paddle. Also, remember to be courteous of other water-goers and always follow the rules of the water.

Now that you know the basics, you’re ready to hit the waves! Stand up paddle boarding is a great way to get out on open water and enjoy nature at its finest. With some practice and patience, you’ll be paddling like a pro in no time. Have fun out there!

Happy paddling!

Our favorite Red Paddle Co inflatable paddle board

red paddle co 10'6" ride image
red paddle co ride

When the wind is light, we still like to get out on the water. We enjoy paddle boarding the Red Paddle Co 10’6″ Ride. It is a great all round paddle board that is stable enough for beginners, yet manoeuvrable enough for intermediate and advanced paddlers to continue using for years to come. We’ve been paddling for almost 10 years and our go-to family SUP is the 10’6″ Ride by Red Paddle Co.

Sure, we’ve had it for a while and it’s a bit dirty, but the board has stood up to all sorts of use and abuse for a long time. My 5 year old and 7 year old enjoy paddling it in the pool, and we enjoy paddling it together out the front of our apartment in Cabarete Bay and in the local river, La Boca.

If the waves are small, too small for my wave SUP and the wind is super light, I’ll also paddle it out to the reef to catch a few rollers.

The Ride 10’6″ packs down nice and tight thanks to the MSL Fusion construction. It is tough, durable and kid friendly! We thoroughly recommend this board for those who want a convenient to store, transport, and above all, excellent to paddle SUP.

7 helpful tips to care for your inflatable stand up paddle board

As with all premium products, caring for them is vital to their prolonged service. Inflatable stand up paddles boards are no exception. Despite their extreme durability and resistance to impact, a huge bonus over regular hard SUPs, inflatable SUPs still need some general care. Starboard have created this cool infographic with a few tips.

1. Cleaning

Clean the board after each use with fresh water and mild soap.

2. Avoid direct sunlight

If you need to leave the board inflated in direct sunlight, deflate it to at least 10 PSI, although direct sunlight should be avoided where possible.

3. Don’t use an air compressor

You can easily over inflate the board by using air compressor and void the warranty.

4. No dragging

Sharp debris can puncture your board, it is best not to drag it.

5. Use it frequently

Long-term storage can cause glue bonds to disintegrate. (Less of an issue as fusion and welding technologies evolve.)

6. Store at room temperature

Keep the boards sheltered away from extreme high and low temperatures, and excessive humidity.

7. Keep it dry

Dry the board off after each use and before storing to avoid mold damage.

So whether you are in the market for a Starboard inflatable paddle board, a Red Paddle Co inflatable SUP or a Fanatic inflatable paddle board, these 7 tips to looking after and caring for your board are very handy.
