Top 5 reasons why inflatable SUPs are perfect for your Fall adventures

Green Water Sports has brought over their top 5 reasons why inflatable SUPs are perfect for your fall adventures, read on to find out what they are. Every season brings the opportunity for a new adventure and a new perspective on the outdoors and we think inflatable paddleboards are the perfect companion to see all of this and more. Find out our top 5 reasons why inflatable SUPs are perfect for your fall adventures below!

1. They Are Incredibly Convenient

As the season begins to change to fall and the days get shorter, convenience really is key. Inflatable paddleboards are amazingly lightweight, so wherever your fall adventures may take you, whether it be trekking to a remote lake or gliding down rivers, it’s easy and quick to lift it in and out the water. Along with their light weight, inflatables can easily be rolled up and stored in their accompanying backpack, making it not only easier to carry along on your adventures, but also means they take up minimal storage space. This handy pack down makes them easy to transport, even in the smallest vehicles, on public transport and even on planes! This portability of inflatable paddle boards offers up the ability and freedom of limitless exploration year round!

2. Fun For The Entire Family

The family fun doesn’t have to end with summer, as inflatable paddleboard’s light weight makes them manageable for the kids compared to the bulky and heavy hardboard alternative. Not only are they more manageable for the kids, but also easy to use for the entire family as inflatable paddleboards are more stable, when inflated to the correct PSI, than hardboards as they are generally wider and thicker, giving more volume. This makes them stable in a variety of water states from choppy ocean, to silky smooth lakes, to white water rapids. This stability makes them impressively versatile for all levels and abilities of paddlers and can be used for fishing, SUP yoga, racing, SUP polo and white water paddling just to name a few. For those that are still a little wobbly on their feet, inflatables also have much more ‘give’ so if you do fall, you’re not going to hurt yourself or anyone else with the board. This also makes them much more comfortable underfoot or if you prefer to kneel or sit down.

Review of the 2021 Red Paddle Co 10’6″ x 32″ Ride inflatable paddle board

Green Water Sports have recently reviewed the 2021 Red Paddle Co inflatable SUP. Red Paddle Co are the industry leaders of inflatable paddle board technology and the 10’6″ Ride is their most popular model. Check out the first part of the review below.

The 2021 Red Paddle Co 10’6″ Ride inflatable stand up paddle board is a marked evolution over prior year models. There are several notable updates over 2020, including the new Titan 2 Pump, a twin fin system, larger deck pad and new flat bungee system. Continuing is the unmatched attention to detail, and the industry leading 5 year warranty with product registration.

MSL Fusion Technology, exclusive to Red Paddle Co, was introduced for the 2016 model year and it was a huge step up in terms of quality, durability and performance. Now, with a solid 6 years under their belt from this revolutionary change, the 2021 Red Paddle Co range updates focus on not only making the boards even better performing and easier to use, but with attention to even the smallest detail for the best possible inflatable paddle board packages.

Along side the regular (blue) 10’6″ Ride for 2021, we have the 10’6″ Ride Special Edition. This eye catching purple trimmed board was first introduced to celebrate Red Paddle Co ‘s 10th anniversary in 2018 and has stayed on as a popular alternative to the standard blue. In 2008, Red Paddle Co started out as a pioneer in the industry focusing on just inflatable stand up paddle boards, and today, they are the market leaders in terms of technology, quality and performance.

The only difference between the blue 10’6″ Ride and the purple 10’6″ Ride Special Edition is the color, the board has the same specifications and comes with the same items as the regular 10’6″ Ride. With this color difference in mind, this review is valid for both boards.

For 2021, there is also now a 10’6″ Ride Package. This is the same awesome 10’6″ Ride (in blue) coupled with the Red Paddle Co Alloy Nylon Adjustable 70-86″ 3 Piece Paddle and the Red Paddle Co Coiled Leash. A combined value of $188 for just $100.

Note: This article is a review of the 10’6″ Ride (and the 10’6″ Ride Special Edition), for more info on how to set up and use the board, please see our knowledge base area or view the Red Paddle Co User Manual.

So what exactly have they updated for 2021? What features have they changed, what details are refined, are the boards better? Should I get one, or maybe the 10’8″ Ride? In an attempt to answer these questions, let’s begin with the 2021 Red Paddle Co 10’6″ Ride review and videos.

The new 2021 Red Paddle Co RSS battens

In the above video, courtesy of Green Water Sports, John Hibbard from Red Paddle Co walks us through the new RSS battens from 2021.

Hi guys, John Hibbard here from Red Paddle Co HQ. I’d like to introduce to you the 2021 RSS batten. First thing you’ll notice, a new color, day glow orange. This makes it much easier to find on the beach when you’re packing up at the end of a long day. You won’t lose it in the sand or in the long grass. So a great customer experience.

You’ll also notice it’s extremely durable. In fact, it’s basically unbreakable. So if it gets stood on inside the bag or on the beach, it’s not going to break. If you leave it inside your board and forget that it’s in there when you come to roll the board up, you’re not going to break or splinter the batten by mistake. You can just remove it once you’ve remembered, and carry on as normal.

It’s extremely durable. It’s also a polycarbonate material which means it’s recyclable, so it can be recycled in household recycling. But it works exactly the same as the old batten. The performance it delivers is exactly the same. It fits into the pocket and the force of the rider goes down across the thin edge.

It is slightly different when it comes to being put inside the board. I’m going to show you that now. So you pump the board up to about 1 or 2 PSI, same as normal, put the board on its rail. Then just put the first inch or so of the batten into the batten pocket. This is where there’s a difference in technique.

For the rest of the details, and to see how these RSS Battens are used, head to Red Paddle Co at Green Water Sports.

Our favorite Red Paddle Co inflatable paddle board

When the wind is light, we still like to get out on the water. We enjoy paddle boarding the Red Paddle Co 10’6″ Ride. It is a great all round paddle board that is stable enough for beginners, yet manoeuvrable enough for intermediate and advanced paddlers to continue using for years to come. We’ve been paddling for almost 10 years and our go-to family SUP is the 10’6″ Ride by Red Paddle Co.

Sure, we’ve had it for a while and it’s a bit dirty, but the board has stood up to all sorts of use and abuse for a long time. My 5 year old and 7 year old enjoy paddling it in the pool, and we enjoy paddling it together out the front of our apartment in Cabarete Bay and in the local river, La Boca.

If the waves are small, too small for my wave SUP and the wind is super light, I’ll also paddle it out to the reef to catch a few rollers.

The Ride 10’6″ packs down nice and tight thanks to the MSL Fusion construction. It is tough, durable and kid friendly! We thoroughly recommend this board for those who want a convenient to store, transport, and above all, excellent to paddle SUP.

7 helpful tips to care for your inflatable stand up paddle board

As with all premium products, caring for them is vital to their prolonged service. Inflatable stand up paddles boards are no exception. Despite their extreme durability and resistance to impact, a huge bonus over regular hard SUPs, inflatable SUPs still need some general care. Starboard have created this cool infographic with a few tips.

1. Cleaning

Clean the board after each use with fresh water and mild soap.

2. Avoid direct sunlight

If you need to leave the board inflated in direct sunlight, deflate it to at least 10 PSI, although direct sunlight should be avoided where possible.

3. Don’t use an air compressor

You can easily over inflate the board by using air compressor and void the warranty.

4. No dragging

Sharp debris can puncture your board, it is best not to drag it.

5. Use it frequently

Long-term storage can cause glue bonds to disintegrate. (Less of an issue as fusion and welding technologies evolve.)

6. Store at room temperature

Keep the boards sheltered away from extreme high and low temperatures, and excessive humidity.

7. Keep it dry

Dry the board off after each use and before storing to avoid mold damage.

So whether you are in the market for a Starboard inflatable paddle board, a Red Paddle Co inflatable SUP or a Fanatic inflatable paddle board, these 7 tips to looking after and caring for your board are very handy.
